Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis has said he is considering holding a smaller event in September after it was confirmed that the coronavirus pandemic has forced the festival’s cancellation for the second year running.
Speaking to LBC, Eavis said he hoped to hold a smaller event later in the year to belatedly mark the 50th anniversary of Glastonbury – which was originally set to take place last year.
“I would like to do something in September. I would like to do something smaller somewhere around the anniversary date of when we started, which was the 18th of September 1970,” he said. “I would like to consider possibly doing something around that time.”

Following yesterday’s cancellation of Glastonbury 2021, Download Festival have assured fans that they’re “continuing to work behind the scenes” to see that this year’s edition of the rock event goes ahead.
Yesterday saw Glasto confirm the long-feared news that “in spite of their efforts to move Heaven and Earth”, the event at the end of June would not be able to go ahead due to complications that have arisen from the coronavirus pandemic – meaning a second enforced fallow year.
Now Download, which is set to take place in Donington from June 4-6 and see headline performances from Kiss, Biffy Clyro and System Of A Down, have issued a statement to reassure fans, and tell ticketholders that news should be coming in March.

Figures from across the world of entertainment have been sharing their reaction to today’s news that Glastonbury 2021 has been cancelled.
“In spite of our efforts to move Heaven & Earth, it has become clear that we simply will not be able to make the Festival happen this year,” the Eavises said. “We are so sorry to let you all down.”
With great regret, we must announce that this year’s Glastonbury Festival will not take place, and that this will be another enforced fallow year for us. Tickets for this year will roll over to next year. Full statement below and on our website. Michael & Emily pic.twitter.com/SlNdwA2tHd
