Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, and the Non-Academic Staff of Nigerian Universities, NASU, in the University of Calabar on Tuesday held joint a protest to reject the proposed sharing formula of thirty billion given to the universities by the Federal Government.
The protest which was under the aegis of Joint Action Congress, JAC, of the union saw the workers marching round the University’s Main Campus with placards with various inscription baring their anger on the Federal Government on what they termed ‘cheating’ of non-academic staff of universities.
Addressing the workers, the Deputy National President of SSANU, Dr Leku Andor, said the Federal Government was being insincere in implementing simple Agreement signed with non-academic staff unions.

Non-teaching Staff Unions of Nigerian Universities have begun a 3-day nationwide protest to press home their demands for an equitable share of the N40 billion ‘Earn Allowance’ to university-based unions, among others.
The Non-Teaching Staff Unions of the Nigerian Universities include the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and Non Academic Staff of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU).
The National President of NASU, Hassan Makolo, while addressing newsmen on Tuesday in Abuja, said the unions were not happy about the sharing formula of the N40 billion Earn Allowance.
Hope that federal universities will reopen soon may be dashed as members of non-academic unions are beginning a three-day warning strike from tomorrow January 12, 2021.
