Its routine law and order duties apart, the Punjab Police has now taken up another job – one that is bound to leave the state richer in greenery while helping offset the carbon emission. The Mansa unit of the state police is now growing ‘Miyawaki Forests’, a well known Japanese technique through which dense forests are grown in small plots of land, particularly in urban areas, in a relatively shorter period of time.

Marking International Human Rights Day, the US and UK announced a new round of sanctions targeting 31 human rights violators from across the globe.
This is the third announcement of sanctions under the UK’s sanctions regime and includes travel bans and asset freezes for human rights violators from Russia, Venezuela, Gambia, and Pakistan. The US sanctions targeted officials from China, El Salvador, Haiti, Liberia, Jamaica, Kyrgyz Republic, and Russia.
Included in the sanctions were former Gambian President, Yahya Jammeh, and Ahmad Anwar Khan, the former Senior Superintendent of Police in Malir District, a district in southern Pakistan. This was due to “historic human rights violations including extrajudicial killings of protestors and minority groups”.

The US State Department appeared to have been referencing to the incident in Kraal district, where members of the Adams-led Crime Management Unit (CMU) were implicated in the controversial killings of two women and two men.
The deceased were identified as 45-year-old Angela Richards, 38-year-old Ferris Lewena Thompson, Matthew James, and a man known only as Renegade .
