Ranchi: In an appalling incident reported from Jharkhand’s Nawatoli, a 22-year-old youth died on Monday after being thrashed for several hours by a group of people who suspected him to be a vehicle lifter. Police have booked five named and 30 unidentified persons in connection with the incident.

A man allegedly stabbed his 26-year-old niece to death in a village in Uttar Pradesh s Bulandshahr district, accusing her of cheating on him, police said on Tuesday.
The incident took place on Monday, they said.
The accused, Vineet, a resident of a village in Dibairpur area, was allegedly having an affair with his niece, according to police.
The woman, mother of two, left his in-laws house on February 14 and went to Noida, where she stayed with his uncle at a relative s place, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Santosh Kumar Singh said.

5 KP regions lag behind in drive against ice

PESHAWAR: Five regions of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police are far behind Peshawar and Mardan in the drive against ice the use of which has reached alarming levels across the province and the country.
An aggressive operation against ice dealers, manufacturers and traffickers has been launched across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after the number of its addicts increased manifold in the last few years. However, the number of addicts is still growing despite hectic efforts and operations by the police and other forces.
A campaign has also been launched in Peshawar, Mardan and many other districts to create awareness among the parents, teachers and general public about the harms of ice, heroin, hashish and all kinds of drugs. It has been learnt that some tablets and syrups being sold at medical stores are also being used by the addicts when they can’t find other drugs.

Rajouri: Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Rajesh K Shavan today chaired a meeting of the District Red Cross Society to review its functioning and activities being carried out in the district.
The Deputy Commissioner stressed on organising medical cum eye screening camps in the Border and far-flung areas of the District to facilitate the people. He directed the Social welfare Department, Health and Education Department to survey the children suffering from stunted growth; Deaf and Dumb children; Paralytic children; children rendered disable due to accident; children suffering from life-consuming disease and congenital heart problem and submit the report at the earliest.
