Punjab bans elective surgeries in private hospitals, asks them to reserve 75 pc beds for COVID-19 patients ANI | Updated: Apr 21, 2021 23:17 IST
Chandigarh [India], April 21 (ANI): Punjab Chief Secretary Vini Mahajan, on Wednesday ordered an immediate ban on all the elective surgeries besides reserving 75 per cent beds in the private hospitals for COVID-19 patients to help conquer the ongoing second wave effectively.
Chairing a meeting of the administrative secretaries, Deputy Commissioners, Commissioners of Police, and Senior Superintendents of Police to review the current COVID situation, the Chief Secretary urged the people to come forward for Covid vaccination as it was safe and the only way to defeat the pandemic.

Jammu and Kashmir: Ramadhan begins with religious fervour

The holy month of Ramadhan commenced in Jammu and Kashmir with religious fervour on Wednesday.
People in large numbers offered prayers including Taraweeh (night prayers) in masjids but followed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) including wearing masks and maintaining social distancing during the prayers.
The festive buzz created by Ramadhan has been quite evident in the markets of summer capital Srinagar as shops and vendors selling dates and other eatables were thronged by people.
People could be seen making purchases including that of fruits while the demand for mutton and poultry items has also witnessed a sharp increase in the last few days.

The Punjab government has instructed officials to maintain vigil and ensure action against illegal transportation of wheat from other states.
While procurement of wheat is currently going on in the state, Punjab Chief Secretary Vini Mahajan asked police and administration to take adequate measures. The state will deploy enforcement teams at borders to check the illegal trade.
Wheat is allegedly procured at cheaper rates elsewhere and sold in Punjab as per minimum support prices (MSP).
