A âvulnerableâ and âeasily ledâ man was convicted in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on Wednesday for using counterfeit currency.
The court heard that Jeremy Wade Muir, 34, used a counterfeit $50 note at the Puma Service Station on Edward Street.
On November 19, 2020, Muir bought cigarettes with the fake money, which upon inspection had Chinese characters written on its hologram window.
Police prosecutor Senior Constable Peter Rumford said that on December 5, Muir attended Rockhampton Police Station and said that another man gave him the counterfeit note.
Muir told police he gave that man the cigarettes and change received during the transaction, and only afterwards was informed the cash was illegitimate.

An unlicensed driver has been disqualified from driving for two years after giving his sister a “ride”.
Jaiden Fraser, 23, pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on January 22 to one count of driving without a licence.
Police prosecutor Senior Constable Peter Rumford said Fraser was intercepted driving along Dean St, Rockhampton, for a licence check and breath test at 9.15pm on January 6.
Snr Constable Rumford said checks revealed Fraser’s licence had been disqualified by the court on September 10, 2020, for six months.
He said Fraser told police he was giving his sister a “ride” because she had no other way of getting home and was aware his licence was disqualified.

A number of drink and drug-drivers were dealt with in Rockhampton Magistrates Court this week. Jullian Simon David Howie-West had marijuana in his system when he was intercepted driving along Lakes Creek Rd, Rockhampton, about 3pm on November 3, 2020.
Howie-West pleaded guilty to the charge in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on January 19.
Police prosecutor Senior Constable Peter Rumford said Howie-West told police he had recently used drugs.
Howie-West was fined $350 and disqualified from driving for one month. - Kade William Hampson had a blood-alcohol content reading of .043 when he was intercepted driving along Norman Rd, Norman Gardens, about 1.40pm on September 22, 2019.

A man kicked in the door of a Rockhampton hotel after he was locked out of the room because his friends were having sex, a court has heard.
Ashlee Owen Lloyd Washington, 19, pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on January 19 to one count of wilful damage.
Police prosecutor Senior Constable Peter Rumford said Washington and his friends checked into Rockhampton Court Motor Inn on November 6, 2020.
Snr Constable Rumford said sometime during the night, Washington forced the door open, damaging the door and a lock.
He said the following morning, staff noticed the door had been damaged and reported the matter to police.
