Police warn rural drug traffickers there s nowhere to hide

Premium Content Subscriber only UPDATE 3.30PM: Mackay police are warning drug traffickers they are fooling themselves if they think hiding out in a rural area is a “safe haven”. Speaking about the drug raid at an Eton home on Wednesday, Mackay CIB Detective Senior Sergeant Jack Savage said police found 10.77g of methamphetamine, 182g of marijuana and 0.4g of cocaine, $540 in cash, nun chucks and an antipersonnel spray. Police charged a 44-year-old Kinchant Dam man with 11 drug-related offences after chasing him through multiple neighboring properties including darting between a barb-wired fence. Sergeant Savage said the Kinchant Dam Rd raid would likely lead to more arrests and charges.

Police identify persons of interest in bowls club assault

Premium Content Subscriber only The 42-year-old victim was in a stable condition at Townsville University Hospital on Monday morning. Detective Senior Sergeant Jack Savage said police had spoken to persons of interest but no arrests had been made and the investigation was ongoing. Emergency services were called to the Rural View bowls club about 7.50pm Friday, where they found the 42-year-old victim unconscious. A Queensland Police spokeswoman said witnesses at the scene reported a person had punched the man in the head, causing him to fall backwards on the ground and become unconscious. The victim suffered a serious head injury and was taken to Mackay Base Hospital in a critical condition.

Premium Content Subscriber only Police are searching for three men involved in a smash and grab at the Anaconda store in Richmond. One of the offenders used a crowbar to smash the glass door at the front of the retail business at the corner of Mackay Bucasia Rd and Holts Rd. The three men then entered the shop about 12.20am Saturday before smashing glass cabinets and stealing the contents from inside. Detective Senior Sergeant Jack Savage said the offenders were wearing full face and body coverings. He urged people in the Mackay area to be on the lookout for anyone selling expensive fishing rods, as these items were stolen from Anaconda.
