Senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Rajib Banerjee resigned as West Bengal s forest minister on January 22, in what was seen as another setback to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee s party, months before the state assembly election.
Rajib Banerjee met West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar after sending his resignation letter to the chief minister. Dhankhar subsequently accepted Rajib s resignation. The first bovine Enamul Haque smuggled to Bangladesh was a calf. In the summer of 1994 he carried the animal in his arms and walked across the border into a village in Bangladesh in broad daylight.
A frail figure then, Haque was not checked or stopped by anyone, earned Rs 3,000 and did not share the spoils. It was his first income, a cent per cent profit he had stolen the calf from an Indian village. Haque was testing the waters, he had heard from his neighbours how cow smuggling was lucrative and buyers wanted more supplies.

Senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and former cabinet minister in West Bengal government, Suvendu Adhikari resigned from the legislative assembly on December 16, ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to the state this weekend.
Adhikari, an MLA from Nandigram in East Midnapore district, had resigned from the West Bengal cabinet last month.
As per reports, Adhikari went to the assembly and submitted a hand-written letter at the secretariat.
