IRON MOUNTAIN Reassurance for independent seniors is just a KISS away.
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, sponsored by Dickinson-Iron Community Services Agency, has announced the start of its Keeping Independent Seniors Safe, or KISS program.
The new addition provides free telephone assistance to older adults who live alone and want to feel safe and secure.
“We have a lot of seniors out there who could use a phone call on a daily basis,” RSVP Director Kathy Arnold said, “especially now when we have so much social isolation due to the pandemic.”

The Mining City Christmas and Holiday Giving Program has always been about spreading holiday joy between neighbors. This year has been an extra tough year, and the Butte community has shown just how tough it is by making small donations that make a big difference over the holidays.
âIn its usual form, the community of Butte is being just superbly generous, said Margie Seccomb, chief executive officer of Action Inc., the local non-profit that puts on the program.
Every child should wake up Christmas morning to find a toy under the tree, and itâs just as important they have warm clothes and a warm home for the winter. Â

Somehow the act of handwriting words and sentences to communicate is fading from our culture. Gone are the days of letters to and from grandparents. Instead, we FaceTime or, more recently, Zoom. Gone are the days of mailing a postcard to friends while you were on vacation (which, admittedly, often did not arrive until after you were home). Instead, we take a selfie with the mauve beach scene behind us and text it instantly. While electronic forms of communication are certainly fast, something gets lost in the translation. When we took the time to think more, we included more.
The greatest disadvantage of electronic communication is that not everyone has the technological means. But never fear, handwriting letters is not dead. Pen pals are not a myth; they do exist.
