Elder Network continues support for seniors, launches new programs (1/27/2021) Elder Network Winona County reports that its companion and volunteer programs are strong supports for seniors in the community. Barb Parker, Winona County program supervisor reports, “We are continuing to serve Winona families, and our programs are thriving. Thank you, Winona, for opening your doors and hearts to Elder Network as we care for your family members.” Parker states, “We are launching an oil pastel art series in partnership with the Minnesota Conservatory for the Arts starting in February via Zoom. It will run for four months on the second Tuesday of each month starting at 1:30 p.m. This follows our successful intentional doodling class that we ran for six months in 2020.”

Contractors will be undertaking pavement maintenance work, including resurfacing and refreshing road markings, between the hours of 7am and 5pm, Monday to Saturday each week. During this time, stop/go traffic management and a speed restriction of 30km/h will be in place. “We will do our best to maintain traffic flows but due to the high volumes of traffic on this stretch of the state highway, delays of up to 15 minutes are expected so we’re advising motorists to plan ahead,” Senior Network and Journey Manager Helen Harris says.

Then Taylor went to college in Virginia, and found a kindred community in Minneapolis. But when the pandemic hit, Taylor (who uses they/them pronouns) suddenly felt isolated. A little like a small-town teenager. So they made art. Inspired by gay newsletters of decades past, the 24-year-old put out a call for letters, illustrating seven of them to create a zine: Not Alone, Never Was: a Penpal Zine 4 Rural Queers.
