The Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFund, has assured that approvals for research grants would be doubled in 2021.
TETFund Executive Secretary, Prof Suleiman Bogoro, said the approvals would be increased from over 128 made in 2020.
Bogoro said the approvals would be made public once the Board of Trustees gives its nod.
He disclosed this when a contingent of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPS, Kuru, Senior Executive Course 43, 2021, visited him in Abuja on Tuesday.
Bogoro said qualified institutions will draw a maximum of N50 million research grants from the N7.5 billion National Research Fund, NRF.

He disclosed that qualified institutions will draw a maximum of N50 million research grants from the N7.5 billion National Research Fund, NRF.
According to him,”Under the instruction of President Muhammadu Buhari, the fund provided research intervention between N250 to N300 million, to set up, at least, a quarter of the molecular labs established in the country.”

The Executive Secretary of Tertiary Education Trust Fund, Professor Suleiman Bogoro, on Tuesday, revealed that more than 90 per cent of lecturers in Nigerian universities are now doctorate degree holders as a result of the focus on academic staff training and development by the Fund.
He noted that this was a tremendous improvement over nine years ago when it was recorded that only 40 per cent of university lecturers in the country had PhDs, and by 2015, over 60 per cent had acquired PhDs.

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has said his administration is in full support of autonomy for Judiciary and Legislative Arms of Government.
The Governor stated this on Monday when the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Makurdi branch led by its Chairman, Barrister Justin Gbagir paid him a courtesy visit at the Benue Peoples House, Makurdi.
He stated that autonomy for the two arms of government is allowed under the constitution and as someone who has respect for the Rule of Law, he would prefer that monies meant for the Judiciary and Legislature be deducted at source.
Governor Ortom noted that a framework to that effect was being worked out, expressing the belief that when the process is completed, Nigerian Governors would also key into it.
