Area Scouts look ahead | News, Sports, Jobs

BOARDMAN Scouts BSA Troop 9054 members continue to hone their skills as they see light at the end of the pandemic tunnel. For Scoutmaster David Chauvin, this means seeing three Scouts wrap up their Eagle awards and returning to the life lessons that Scouting is known for. “It has always been my belief that Scouting is important for the extra development of leadership, Scouting skills, moral development and social interaction with leaders and other Scouts,” Chauvin said. “This is especially poignant at this time going to the pandemic when you see how the kids are losing all of those items by not attending school or Scouting events.”

Lena Vandenberg

Funeral services for Lena Vandenberg, age 98, of Pella, will be held at 10:00am, Saturday, January 9th, at the Third Reformed Church. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church with family present. The Garden Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Abraham Willems

Funeral services for Abraham Willems will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, December 30, at the Third Reformed Church in Pella. Visitation will be held at Third Reformed Church, from 10:00 to 11:00 am, prior to the funeral service. The Garden Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dora Van Wyk Oskaloosa, Iowa | Age 90 Dora Marie Van Wyk, age 90, of Oskaloosa, passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2020, at the MHP Serenity Hospice House in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She was born on January 15, 1930, in Galesburg, Iowa, the daughter of Leonard and Henrietta (Beyer) Duinink. Dora attended Rose Hill Country School near Pella through 8th grade. As a young adult Dora made her Profession of Faith at Third Reformed Church in Pella. Dora was united in marriage to Bernard Vos. Bernard served in the United States Marine Corps and the couple lived in North Carolina near Camp Lejeune. Bernard was killed in action in the Korean War. Dora stayed close with his family for the rest of her life. Upon Bernard’s death Dora returned to Iowa to be closer to her family.
