Sen. McConnell Blasts Progressives’ Attack on Policing, Rise in Violent Crime
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) condemned progressive Democrats’ call to defund police departments during 2020, saying that the far left’s ranting about defunding the police has become “official Democratic Party dogma” and is contributing to violent crimes across the nation.
“From coast to coast, American families are facing an explosion of violent crime on their streets and in their neighborhoods. 2020 saw homicides skyrocket nationwide. The sharpest one-year increase in decades. And 2021 is already shaping up to be even worse…. Crime and delinquency have many causes. In some ways, the pandemic likely contributed,” McConnell said from the Senate floor on Thursday. “But it is impossible to ignore that these terrible trends are coming precisely as so-called ‘progressives’ have decided it’s time to denounce and defund local law enforcement,” said McConnell.
On 25 May last year, black man George Floyd was murdered by a white police officer in the United States, sending shockwaves across the world and sparking generational protests against racism and police brutality. One year on, the aftershocks are still being felt.

Tuesday marks the death of George Floyd while in Minneapolis police custody. President Biden plans to welcome Floyd’s family members to the White House, a move that further taints the jury pool while ratifying the preferred narrative that the cops awaiting trial are guilty of murder.
Former officer, Derek Chauvin, was found guilty of murdering Floyd by what appears to have been a rigged jury. Biden urged the jury to make the “right” decision – that Chauvin was guilty – while they deliberated, an attempt, intended or not, to telegraph to the nation and future jurors that any motion for retrial or appeal filed by Chauvin should be a non-starter. At least one of the jurors deciding the guilt or innocence of Chauvin was a BLM protester who went to Washington, DC to see Floyd’s family members speak at a March on Washington. He claimed on his jury form that he’d never attended such a protest.

It would be foolish to deny that there’s a specific significance when citizens are unjustly killed by the police, as a jury in Minneapolis determined last week happened to George Floyd. Armed agents of the state funded by taxpayer money have special obligations, and that includes avoiding the unjust killing of citizens. When the killing is captured on video, an intense emotional reaction is doubly understandable.

But with the gigantic outpouring of global attention that the Floyd case received and with virtually every major elite US institution united in both their condemnation of the death-inducing act, and their claimed resolve to continue doing unspecified reparative “work” it would be foolish to not also notice the comparatively miniscule attention that other instances of unjust killings receive.
