Local business owner thanks community with scholarship The Reporter Times MOORESVILLE  After an outpouring of support following COVID-19 closures, storm damage and financial hardship, a local restaurant has been cooking up a way to give back to the community. When stopping by the Hong Kong Restaurant in Mooresville, it s not unusual for customers to be greeted by owner Bing Qiu. Over the 27 years the restaurant has been in business, Qiu s infectious smile, warm personality and kind demeanor make the popular eatery a go-to destination. But in 2020, like most businesses, the Hong Kong Restaurant was not immune to hardship.  We had closed down for COVID for a little bit, and then about a week later a tornado came through town, Qiu said. We had roof damage. we just had the hardest time getting insurance to pay for it. It was a constant battle.
