City clerk Matthew Conlon won in a big way Thursday night.
A majority of council defeated a measure to Rice the clerk and discuss his job performance in executive session and then approved a residency waiver for him.

The waiver gave the clerk a 90-day extension to relocate to the capital city from Atlantic City, with the clock starting after Gov. Phil Murphy lifts the COVID-19 public health emergency. Murphy extended the order last month.
Assistant city attorney Jacqueline Abdur-Razzaq told council that the city code allowed officials to grant waivers to employees if the city was first unable to recruit qualified city and county residents for an opening.
