Carmen’s Crew the Ohio State alumni team that’s participated in the annual TBT Tournament every year since 2017 had the opportunity last summer to become just the second team ever to win back-to-back titles. With a roster that included the likes of Aaron Craft, William Buford, Jon Diebler, and David Lighty, the squad of (mostly) former Buckeyes were one of the favorites to win the $1 Million, winner-take-all tournament in 2020 after beating the Golden Eagles (Marquette alumni) in 2019.
Instead of repeating, they did the exact opposite, bowing out in the first round to 16-seed House of ‘Paign (Illinois alumni plus Mike Daum), 76-68. Now, seeding in TBT is not the same as seeding in the NCAA Tournament. Seeding is determined based on prior performance as well as the tournament’s perception of the overall roster. A Pierre woman has been hired to head up a new Dakota Wesleyan University program being made available in the Pierre/Fort Pierre area.
Jessica Carr will coordinate the Learn & Earn program with classes being held at Capital City Campus (formerly Capital University Center) in Pierre. The curriculum is designed to prepare students to fill professional jobs in central South Dakota while simultaneously earning professional certifications. The first-of-its-kind program integrates classroom and online learning with professional work experience. Students enrolled will participate in a year-long, part-time, paid internship while completing their professional certificates.
Prospective students and their families are invited to meet with DWU representatives March 15, March 19 or April 12. Each session, styled as a drop-in open house, will be held between at Capital City Campus from 5-7pm.
