Grass-cutting scandal: EFCC presents first witness against ex-SGF

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has opened its case in the ongoing trial of a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, and three others when it presented its first witness, Mohammed Babansule, a relationship manager with the First City Monument Bank.
According to a statement on Wednesday by the EFCC’s head of media and publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, the witness, who is the account manager of the sixth defendant, Josmon Technologies Ltd, during his examination-in-chief, told the court the account opening form and other documents submitted to the bank showed that the fourth defendant, Apeh, is the signatory to the account.

The Gombe State Commissioner for Justice, Zubair Umar, has said the delay in the confirmation of Justice Beatrice Iliya, as the Chief Judge of the state is because of a fraud petition against her.
Umar dismissed the insinuation that Iliya had not been confirmed because she is a woman or because of her religion.
He also stated that Governor Inuwa Yahaya, has a track record of women inclusion in his government, adding that Gombe is the only state in northern Nigeria with women duly elected as a local government chairperson.
“There are petitions before the National Judicial Council and it was brought to the attention of Judicial Service Commission in Gombe state and we have responded to every allegation.

The Uche Okwukwu-led faction of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has asked a Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting in Bwari Abuja to restrain Professor George Obiozor, who was elected to succeed the Nnia Nwodo-led Ohanaeze Ndigbo from parading himself as the President General of the apex Igbo socio-political association.
Obiozor, a former Nigerian Ambassador to the United States, Israel and Cyprus, was on January 10 declared President of the group after an election held at Dan Anyim Stadium in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
However, in a motion on notice number FCT/HC/BIU/M/14/21 brought against him and the Incorporated Trustees of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the applicants sought an order restraining the former envoy and his proxies or any other parading himself pending the determination of the substantive suit.
N197.2m theft: EFCC slams 21-count charge against 2 female bankers

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has preferred a 21-count charge against two female bankers, Olawunmi Audu and Glory Michael Sado, before a Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja, for allegedly stealing about N197.2 million from the account of a customer.
The anti-graft agency alleged that the Defendants conspired and transferred the sum of N197.2 million from the account of De Chimex Aluminium and Steel Company Ltd with number: 0772745307, which was domiciled with Access Bank Plc.
It told the court that the 2nd Defendant, Glory, who was the Relationship Manager of the company, is currently at large.
