TERRE HAUTE. IND. (WTHI) Technology is becoming more and more involved in our daily lives. And sometimes we can t escape it. We spend so many hours on our day looking at our screen, Elizabeth Scamihorn, Strategic Communications Manager at the Vigo County Public Library, said.
Friday is the National Day of Unplugging. The national awareness campaign encourages people to take a much-needed break from technology. My brothers and I made this decision taking a break from TV, Jacob Garrison, a young local resident, said.
Beginning Friday at Sundown until Saturday evening, people across the nation are encouraged to step away from their screens. Some local parents, like Jacob’s mom, are eager for their families to participate.

TERRE HAUTE, IND. (WTHI) - Twelve Steps to a Successful Job Search is the new program the Vigo County Public Library is offering to the community. Many people are still struggling to find work in this economy. This six-week online course is aimed at helping individuals gain confidence and the necessary skills to succeed in their next job interview.
The Gale course is led by Todd Bermont, a world-renowned job-hunting expert and author. Two lessons will be released each week that can be done at your own pace and on your own.
Lack of performing arts events and performances hurting local businesses

Many local performing arts centers and venues in Columbia have temporarily closed their doors due to the pandemic, and local businesses are taking the hit.
The Blue Note, one of Columbia s popular event centers has temporarily closed their doors to the public due to COVID-19. The venue plans to re-open its doors next month for a rescheduled comedy show that was supposed to take place last year.
The Missouri Theatre is another popular performing arts venue that has decided to temporarily close in response to the pandemic.
