The active caseload of the district has risen to 11,994. As part of the two-day mass testing drive organised to detect cases and curb the spread of infection, 20,180 samples were collected on Saturday. The district has surpassed its two-day target of 30,900 samples and has tested a total of 36,390 people on Friday and Saturday.

District braces to tackle COVID-19 spurt

More RT-PCR tests, treatment facilities being arranged In the wake of growing COVID-19 cases, the district will focus on doing more RT-PCR tests, and COVID-19 treatment facilities will be set up at eight more government health facilities, including six community health centres (CHCs). Inpatient treatment facilities for COVID-19 will be made available at the Thripunithura and Palluruthy taluk hospitals, and the Vengola, Pandappilly, Ramamangalam, Vadavucode, Kadayiruppu, and Malippuram CHCs. The decision was taken at a meeting of health officials and District Collector S. Suhas. For people who are recovering at home and might require a medical check-up, outpatient services for COVID-19 patients will be made available at five government hospitals – the Muvattupuzha General Hospital, the Aluva District Hospital, the Paravur and Fort Kochi taluk hospitals and the CIAL COVID-19 Apex Centre.

The District Hospital at Aluva would begin functioning as a COVID care facility by the end of the month.

COVID-19 cases spike in Ernakulam

1,019 test positive for the virus The number of new COVID-19 cases in the district has once again crossed the 1,000-mark, with 1,019 people testing positive for the virus on Tuesday. Thrikkakara recorded 42 new cases, Kottuvally 27, Kalamassery 25, Thripunithura 24, and Kaloor and Manjapra 23 each. Four health workers also tested positive. As many as 463 people tested negative on Tuesday. A total of 10,796 people are currently being treated for the disease in the district. Of them, 8,388 people are recovering at home, 42 patients are at the Government Medical College Hospital, 73 at PVS Hospital, 17 at the Muvattupuzha General Hospital, and 20 at the Fort Kochi Taluk Hospital. At first-line treatment centres, 180 people are being monitored, while 294 patients are at second-line treatment centres.
