Man who shot himself after a nearly 12-hour standoff in Oswego County park dies

The man was pronounced dead Wednesday afternoon at Upstate University Hospital, police said.
Police were called to Mexico Community Park in the village of Mexico around 5:15 a.m. Tuesday to speak with the man, who was believed suicidal and possibly armed, according to Oswego County 911 dispatchers.
The man was in his car in the park threatening to kill himself, said Trooper Jack Keller, a spokesman for the state police.
MEXICO â The Mexico Academy and Central School District (MACS) has once again been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from the NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education.
It is the ninth year in a row MACS has been honored with this national distinction and is one of just 686 districts in the nation that earned this honor.
âWe are so incredibly proud of our music program,â said MACS Superintendent Dr. Donna Runner. âWhen you think of Mexico schools, one of the first things that comes to mind is its rich and deeply rooted musical traditions. I applaud our music educators throughout the district and thank the community for all their support of the arts.â

Mexico, N.Y. A nearly 12-hour standoff between a man and police that caused some Oswego County schools to go into lockdown ended Tuesday when the man shot himself, state police said.
The man is in critical condition at Upstate University Hospital, said Trooper Jack Keller, a New York State police spokesman. The man was initially taken to Oswego Hospital, he said.

Mexico, N.Y. - An armed man has barricaded himself inside his parked car at the Mexico Community Park on Route 104. State Police are negotiating with the man and Route 104 in that area is blocked off.
All schools in the Mexico Academy and Central School District are on lockout as a precaution. The park is almost 2 miles from the school
There is no threat to the schools or the general public at this time.

Town of Mexico, N.Y. A call about a person in crisis at an Oswego County park has prompted a lockout at Mexico-area schools.
Officers were called to Mexico Community Park around 5:15 a.m. to speak with a man who was believed suicidal and possibly armed, an Oswego County 911 dispatcher said. Six hours later, officers remain at the park on Route 104 in the town of Mexico, he said.
The man is suicidal and is in his car in the park, said Trooper Jack Keller, New York State Police spokesman. Route 104 is closed between Emery and Standpipe roads.
