Electronic toy might have started house fire Mexico Public Safety Department MEXICO, Mo. (KMIZ) A house fire that caused major damage to a child s bedroom might have been started by a toy, the Mexico Department of Public Safety said Tuesday. Firefighters were called to a house in the 900 block of Garfield Street on Monday afternoon and found a fire in a bedroom, according to a news release. The fire was put out quickly but the room suffered significant fire and heat damage. The rest of the home had major smoke damage, the department said. The department said a child was in the room at the time and the fire seemed to start near a pile of clothing. The boy told firefighters he put an electronic toy on the clothes, and the toy started a fire.
