AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The Amarillo Zoo has a new bear cub.
According to a news release, the 1-year-old cub was brought to the Amarillo Zoo after multiple captures near humans and communities by the New Mexico Department of Game & Fish.
A private landowner in New Mexico contacted the Amarillo Zoo, and the cub was transported to its new home.
The female cub has found a new life at the Amarillo Zoo. In New Mexico, wild animals captured four times by state officials near and around humans or communities are subject to euthanasia because they can become a danger to humans and themselves.

Although a couple of the big-game permit draws have already passed for 2021, there are still plenty of opportunities for prospective hunters to apply for hunts ranging from oryx to ibex, and ranging from the Colorado border to the Mexican border.
The lottery system not only fairly ensures that everybody gets a chance at a quality hunt, but it also helps maintain wildlife populations at optimum levels while also funding the state Department of Game & Fish, said spokeswoman Tristanna Bickford.

I am disappointed in U.S. Sen. (Martin) Heinrich, a representative of all the people of New Mexico, to have allowed a letter so deceptive and misleading about the EPLUS system to have left his office with his signature on it.
The (Elk Private Lands Use System) does not discriminate against residents of the state but rather offers them the same opportunity as anyone else to purchase a landowner permit and hunt without entering the draw. It also allows anyone to hunt the private land associated with a unit-wide permit as well as all the public land within that unit.
