Farmers, ranchers encouraged to apply

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico Department of Agriculture’s Healthy Soil Program will host a webinar from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Friday, May 21 to show potential applicants the steps to take to be considered for a grant. The grants fund on-the-ground projects to improve soil health in the state.
“We are pleased to announce we have received grant funding through state appropriations for a third consecutive year to improve soil health in New Mexico,” said New Mexico Agriculture Secretary Jeff Witte. “Our updated Healthy Soil Program grant application process reflects the substantive input offered by Eligible Entities and the farmers and ranchers within their communities during the four virtual listening sessions we held in March and April.”
News-Bulletin are again sponsoring a Yard and Garden contest starting April 30.
Nominations may be made of any yard or garden in Valencia County with the weekly winner receiving a $100 prize and photos of the winning yard also appearing in the
News-Bulletin.
The deadline for the first nominations is Friday, April 30, and the winner will be announced in News-Bulletin on Thursday, May 6.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico State University Cooperative Extension Service and New Mexico Department of Health will host webinars about COVID-19 vaccine education April 13 and April 14. The free, one-hour event will begin at 6 p.m. on Zoom.
The webinars will feature Kathryn Hanley, NMSU Regents professor of biology, and topics will include the science behind COVID-19 vaccination development; science behind vaccinations in controlling COVID-19 spread; and efficacy of available vaccines in preventing COVID-19 hospitalization and death in clinical trials. A public interest question and answer session also will be part of the presentation.
