MEDFORD, Ore On Saturday, June 5, the the Medford School District Senior Class will be able to attend in-person graduation ceremonies, which will allow for more family and friends to attend. But for North and South Medford High Schools, the school district is having to get a bit more creative.
According to the school district, North and South Medford High Schools will be hosting a combined eight graduation ceremonies for all 600 plus seniors, to allow for the maximum amount of family members and friends to attend for each student. Providing an experience for seniors that s memorable is super important, said Natalie Hurd, the Communications Director for MSD. It s one of the biggest moments in their lives. One of the biggest moments in their family s lives.
SOUTHERN OREGON Local leaders in Rogue Valley continue to fight for racial equality, as they reflected on one year since the murder of George Floyd.
Tuesday May 25th, marked one year since George Floyd was murdered by former police officer Derek Chauvin. Chauvin was convicted in April on all three counts of second-degree murder, third degree murder, and manslaughter.
The more than nine minute video that showed Chauvin’s knee on Floyd’s neck, sparked unrest and calls for change across the nation. Protests were held in cities like Medford, Ashland and Grants Pass.
“First thing that popped in my mind when I saw the video was how sorry I felt for [Floyd] and his family,” DL Richardson, Equity specialist with Medford School District and activist with Black Southern Oregon Alliance, told NBC5. “Secondly I said to myself, here we go again.”
MSD is hosting Workforce Job Fairs for both North and South Medford High Schools.
Students 16 and older are invited.
The first fair is at South Medford High on Tuesday at 3:30.
The second fair is at North Medford High on Thursday at 4.
MSD says the job fair is being hosted in collaboration with ‘Rogue Workforce’ and ‘Worksource Rogue Valley’.
Jobs available are in the health care, construction, diesel mechanic, child care, and technology industries.
