The college has an excellent laboratory infrastructure, which got a fillip after the addition of the new science block in 2019. Like colleges across the country, Hindu College also faced many challenges because of the Covid pandemic. The biggest problem was conducting practical classes online. The college administration and teachers brainstormed to recreate the laboratory ambience for the students on the digital platform. In some cases, software applications were made available and used by the faculty.

Penpa Tsering, the new Sikyong, took office as the 16th president-in-exile, replacing former Sikyong Lobsang Sangay. After two rounds of elections in January and April, 53-year-old Penpa Tsering defeated his rival Kelsang Dorjee Aukatsang, becoming the fifth directly-elected president of Tibetans in exile and the third since the 14th Dalai Lama handed over all political power in 2011. On May 27, Penpa Tsering took the oath of office at the Songtsam Hall of the Tibetan government-in-exile’s Supreme Court. Tibet’s spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, watched the live streamed ceremony.

Image Source: IANS News Chennai, May 17 : Colleges in Chennai are opening their campuses for oxygen beds and isolation rooms and are preparing food for frontline workers and a majority of these colleges have handed over their buildings to the Greater Chennai Corporation. These colleges are being converted into Covid care centres. Madras Christian College (MCC) has launched an ambulance service, a 15-bed isolation centre for patients with mild symptoms and a five-bed facility for primary contacts. Paul Wilson, principal of the MCC told IANS: The facility is open to the general public, our faculty, staff members, students and our alumni. The centre will also provide online medical consultation. Food and nursing services are also provided at the Covid care centre here.
