Truck catches fire inside parking structure at San Diego International Airport

SAN DIEGO     A truck parked inside a San Diego International Airport parking structure caught fire early Sunday and arson investigators are trying to determine how the blaze started, fire officials said. The fire was reported shortly before 2:45 a.m. in the Terminal 2 parking structure, said San Diego Fire-Rescue Battalion Chief David Pilkerton. When fire crews arrived a short time later they saw flames shooting out of a truck on the first floor of the parking structure, Pilkerton said. It took firefighters about a half hour to extinguish the blaze. Access to the fire was “a bit difficult,” Battalion Chief Mike Liversedge told OnScene TV, because the fire engines were too tall to pull into the parking structure. Crews used hose extensions to pump water from an engine to get water onto the burning vehicle, Pilkerton said.
