A woman killed in a March shootout with a Nashville police officer died in surgery after being shot four times, an autopsy released Friday shows.
An autopsy, conducted March 13 by Davidson County Senior Associate Medical Examiner Miguel Laboy, shows Nika Holbert s cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds. Laboy wrote in his report Holbert was struck twice in the back and twice in the left buttock and thigh area.
Investigators said Holbert, 31, shot Metro Nashville Police Department Field Training Officer Josh Baker in the stomach during a traffic stop around 9:30 a.m. March 12 and he returned fire.
Body camera footage showed Baker instructing Holbert to hand over her handbag and informing her of his active body camera. After discovering what appeared to be drugs, Baker attempted to detain Holbert and called for backup. He fired his stun gun at her before the two exchanged gunfire.

The FDA made the expected announcement Monday and by Thursday, Metro Nashville Public Schools told parents the district has partnered with Vanderbilt Health to help families schedule appointments for their children.
The vaccine previously could be administered only to people as young as 16, so some Nashville high schoolers have gotten their shot but most students have not.
That added age group came through an expansion of the emergency use authorization the FDA initially granted Pfizer for its vaccine against the virus. The 12-15 age group will receive the same dosage of vaccine as those 16 and older, which is two shots administered three weeks apart.

More accurately, I wrote that “education reform is no longer focused on students or teachers. It is focused on ancillary issues, folks who profit off the system.” That is often still the case.
I stated: “When we watch policymakers grasp at the complex issues facing public education, we realize that outside influences and political donations are having greater influence over our classrooms and often fail to connect the educator with the policy.”
