Highlights The public transport system in urban areas got a major boost in the Budget. A new scheme will be launched at a cost of `18,000 crores to support augmentation of public bus transport services. Government plans to deploy two new technologies i.e. ‘MetroLite’ and ‘MetroNeo’ to provide metro rail systems at a much lesser cost New Delhi: Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget for the year 2021-22 in the lower house of the parliament on Monday (February 1). The public transport system in urban areas got a major boost in the Budget. While presenting the budget Finance Minister said that Government would work towards raising the share of public transport in urban areas through expansion of metro rail network and augment of city bus service.  A new scheme will be launched at a cost of `18,000 crores to support augmentation of public bus transport services.
