UKIAH, Calif.
A pilot escaped with only minor injuries when his ultralight plane crashed Thursday into a Northern California lake after experiencing engine trouble, authorities said.
The pilot, a 71-year-old man, said the single-engine aircraft lost power about 10 minutes after taking off from Ukiah Municipal Airport, the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
The plane hit the water at the south end of Lake Mendocino, the statement said.
The pilot escaped the sinking aircraft and made it to shore, sheriff’s officials said. He declined medical attention.

The plane, submerged in up to 30 feet (9 meters) of water, is expected to be recovered on Friday.

Derek Steven McCormack, 31, of Covelo, was sentenced Tuesday to state prison for an arson on the home of a Potter Valley family in August 2019.
McCormack in August of last year was convicted by plea in Mendocino County Superior Court of having committed arson of an inhabited residence, a felony. The defendant also admitted as true a sentencing enhancement that the arson was perpetrated during a declared fire state of emergency.

On 04-13-2021 at about 11:35 AM a Mendocino County Sheriff’s Deputy was dispatched to contact a possible assault victim located at Adventist Health Howard Memorial hospital in Willits, California.
Upon arrival, the Deputy was advised an adult female had been in a physical altercation with her boyfriend (Steven White) in the 2200 block of Primrose Drive in Willits, California.
The Deputy learned the adult female and White engaged in a mutual argument. During the argument White grabbed a hold of the adult female’s hand and squeezed it causing an injury to her hand.
The adult female feared for her safety so she punched White in the face causing a visible injury to his lip.

On 04-10-2021 at about 10:10 PM, Mendocino County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to an argument between a male and female in the 29000 block of North Highway 101 in Willits, California.
Upon arrival they contacted an adult female with visible injuries to her face. The injuries included bruising around her eye and a cut on her lip. The Deputies also contacted Thomas Maddox who had a visible injury to his hand.
The Deputies learned the couple lived together and are in a dating relationship.
Deputies learned the couple had been involved in a verbal argument and both appeared to be under the influence of drug and/or alcohol at the time of the incident.
