(WMC) - Memphians plan to continue the tradition of honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday by volunteering for MLK Days of Service. There are in-person and virtual events this year because of the pandemic. Related | Monday, a couple of in-person events include the Memphis River Parks Partnership. They’ve invited volunteers to clean up Cobblestone Landing. Memphis Tilth has also invited people to come out to their Chelsea Avenue location and help with community garden work. Both organizations have asked volunteers to wear masks and stay socially distanced.

Anyone interested can sign-up online using the Volunteer Memphis website at volunteermemphis.org.  Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Volunteer Memphis is asking that all volunteers adhere to guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention by wearing a mask, maintaining social distancing, and following additional guidelines set by their local health departments when volunteering.

(WMC) - Curators at the Mississippi River Museum on Mud Island want to find tens of thousands of dollars worth of artifacts that were apparently stolen last year. The theft at the museum on Mud Island happened in October but is just now coming to light in a police report we obtained. According to the report, $50,000 worth of artifacts were stolen. “I just think it’s preposterous that somebody would steal treasures like that,” said Lee Millar.

(WMC) - A plan three years in the making to redevelop Tom Lee Park kicked off Wednesday. Dozens of city leaders and Memphis River Parks Partnership (MRPP) Visionaries gathered for the virtual groundbreaking of the $60 million renovations for Tom Lee Park. Memphis River Parks Partnership President and CEO Carol Coletta says this has been a long time coming. “Once we complete it in 2023, we will have for Memphis, 18 blocks of transformed riverfront in less than five years,” Coletta said.
