Driver killed in crash with tree near Lansing Updated Feb 27, 2021; Facebook Share MERIDIAN TWP., MI – A driver was killed early Saturday morning in a crash with a tree in Meridian Township. Police were called to the area of Jolly Road near Ambassador Drive just after 1:30 a.m. Saturday for a single-car crash, police said. The vehicle was driving eastbound on Jolly Road when the driver lost control and hit a tree. The driver, whose name is being withheld pending notification of family, was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Police are continuing to investigate the crash. Anyone with information regarding the incident should contact the Meridian Township Police Department at 517-853-4800 or submit an anonymous tip through the department’s social media websites.

LANSING  One person died in a one-vehicle crash in Meridian Township early Saturday morning, police said. The driver lost control while headed east on Jolly Road and crashed into a tree near Ambassador Drive at 1:37 a.m., according to a press release from Meridian Township. Police are working to notify the driver s family of the fatal crash. They have not released the driver s name. The Meridian Township Police Department and Ingham County Regional Crash Investigation Team are investigating the crash. Submit tips to the township police department at 517-853-4800. Lynch, an MSU alum who has worked in law enforcement for nearly 25 years, will also hold the title of vice president for public safety, a university release states. MSU’s Board of Trustees will vote on Lynch’s appointment on Feb. 12, and his expected start date is Feb. 1, according to the release.

Marlon Lynch chosen to lead MSU police department

EAST LANSING  Michigan State University President Samuel Stanley selected a new top law enforcement official to oversee the MSU Police Department and advise on campus safety. Stanley s office announced Tuesday he had selected Marlon Lynch, currently chief safety officer for the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, to serve as chief and as the university s vice president for public safety.  The university board of trustees will vote on Lynch s appointment on Feb. 12. His expected start date is April 1.  Former police chief Kelly Roudebush stepped down last year. She was the first woman to lead MSUPD and announced in July she would be taking medical leave during her treatment for stage four breast cancer.

  Michigan State University President Samuel L. Stanley Jr., M.D., has selected Marlon Lynch to serve as the sixth chief of the MSU Police Department. Based on his vast experience and expertise, Lynch will also hold the title of vice president for public safety. “Marlon has a highly distinguished service record, including leading some of the largest university police departments in the country,” said Stanley. “His nearly 25-year career in law enforcement will allow him to look expansively across the spectrum of public safety to identify areas for improvement in the department and maximize its community engagement. I know he will be a great addition to the Spartan community.
