The company plans a $4.195 million plant using about 112 employees from Plant 1, including at least four new hires. The new facility will support new and on‐going activities at SMP’s initial plant. A subsidiary of Samvardhana Motherson Group (SMG), the company built a 700,000‐square foot facility in Tuscaloosa County in 2015 to supply various exterior and interior components for Mercedes models. In 2019, SMP opened a second Tuscaloosa County plant located on Brookwood Parkway. The third facility will be located in an existing building in the Cedar Cove Technology Park, adjacent to Plant 1.
