Call for greater effort to solve rat-run at Merlin Park

Councillor Alan Cheevers says it’s become a “rat-run” for cars travelling into the city and is now a serious health and safety concern for residents, pedestrians and cyclists. He argues Merlin Lane should not be open to everyday vehicle traffic – and the installation of a barrier must now be considered. 261,073 vaccines dispensed but travel concerns linger

The Chief Executive of the Health Service Executive has said the number of vaccines being distributed will almost double in the coming week. Paul Reid said more than 80,000 doses will be administered across the country between tomorrow and next Sunday. We have a very key week ahead of us, where we will be completing over 80,000 vaccinations, he said. Mr Reid said the figure is almost double what we have been doing on a weekly basis . He said it will include 13,500 people who are aged 85 plus, who will be vaccinated in their GP practice or in vaccination centres . We will also be doing over 40,000 staff and residents in long-term care facilities, who will be getting their second dose, and thirdly, 25,000 vaccinations of frontline healthcare workers with the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Galway Bay FM 21 December 2020 print Galway Bay fm newsroom – A special convoy will travel across the city tomorrow to pay tribute to the “trojan work” carried out by frontline workers throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. City Mayor, Councillor Mike Cubbard, says the convoy will feature blue-light services and other frontline staff, with Santa expected to make an appearance. Councillor Cubbard is keen to stress there will be no stopping or interaction, nor will people be permitted to join the convoy. But he’s asking the public to applaud and show their appreciation for frontline workers as the convoy passes through their area.
