International Jazz Day and Jazz Appreciation Month!

April 30 th, with thousands of worldwide programs culminating in a spectacular All-Star Global Concert from New York, Los Angeles, UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, Cape Town, Moscow, Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro, and other cities around the globe. Hosted by multi-Academy Award winner Michael Douglas from United Nations Headquarters in New York, the Global Concert will feature performances from an array of jazz artists representing more than 20 countries. Herbie Hancock will serve as Artistic Director, and John Beasley will serve as Musical Director. The Austin Cebulske Trio is a straight-ahead small group modeled after the classic chordless saxophone trios throughout the jazz lineage. Inspired by the likes of Sonny Rollins, Joe Henderson, and Melissa Aldana, this trio vibrantly reimagines tunes from the Great American Songbook along with original compositions. A fluid melodic sense paired with a colorful array of rhythmic textures offers a dynamic and exciting musical landscape beyond the harmonic confines of the classic jazz group. Alex Wong / Getty Images Last year, the International Jazz Day All-Star Global Concert affixed a hopeful coda to the cruelest of months. And for pandemic precautionary reasons, the event was fully virtual, with a carefully produced montage of performances and salutations from around the world. This year s International Jazz Day arrives at quite a different moment, in some respects though still a good distance from a post-COVID reality. So the All-Star Global Concert will again take place online, with a live webcast on YouTube and Facebook, starting at 5 p.m. ET on April 30. The feed will also be carried at jazzday.com, and on the websites of UNESCO, the U.S. State Department and United Nations Web TV.

Date Time Share UNESCO, Herbie Hancock and a cast of jazz greats to mark 10th Anniversary of International Jazz Day UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Herbie Hancock today announced the programme for the 10th anniversary edition of International Jazz Day, with an inspiring series of performances, and educational and community outreach initiatives in more than 190 countries. Hosted by multi-Academy Award winning actor Michael Douglas, the 2021 All-Star Global Concert will be streamed live from UNESCO in Paris and the United Nations in New York with a lineup of some of the best international artists performing from cities around the world. UN Secretary-General António Guterres will speak during the concert, of which jazz pianist Herbie Hancock will be the artistic director, with John Beasley serving as the concert’s musical director.
