Meet 15-year-old Selena, this week s Bridging Families feature. Selena is a young lady waiting to find her forever family.
Selena seeks to become part of a family. She is an outgoing person who makes friends easily and always has a smile. She is also an arts and crafts kind of gal, but is also a sporty young lady, as she likes to participate in track and field.
However, her interests don’t stop there. She enjoys several things ranging from reading to challenging her skills on her Nintendo Switch.
As an active teen Selena is seeking to be adopted by an equally active family, who likes outdoor activities such as fishing, swimming, playing basketball, or just a fun day of playing at the park with family. And speaking of family, Selena would like to be a big sister to younger siblings.
City of Alice declares local state of disaster

Alice Mayor Jolene Vanover issued a declaration of local disaster Wednesday afternoon as the severe winter weather poses an imminent threat of widespread and severe property damage, injury and loss of life due to prolonged freezing temperatures, heavy snow, and freezing rain statewide. The declaration allows (the City of Alice) to seek resources from the state and implement the city s emergency plan, said Alice Mayor Jolene B. Vanover.
The declaration an important part of any emergency process like the one Texas is experiencing with the current winter weather. The winter weather that has reached below freezing temperatures to the State of Texas has left many people without basic necessities such as water, light and heat.
DPS traffic stop leads to narcotics seizure

A 20-year-old Palmview man was arrested after a traffic stop by the Department of Public Safety troopers in Jim Wells County.
On Jan. 22, troopers conducted a stop on a white Chrysler Escalade traveling north on Highway 281 for a traffic violation and made contact with the driver Mario Villarreal. During the traffic stop seized 13 bundles of cocaine.
The search of the vehicle was conducted with the assistance from a K-9 who discovered the bundles wrapped in gray and black tape beneath the center console, valued at approximately $365,000, according to Sgt. Nathan Brandley.
Alice High School band students earn chairs for All-State Band

Alice High School band senior Alayna Rosas earned fourth chair in the TMEA 5A All State Band. Area auditions were held Saturday, Jan. 16 through a virtual process.
Rosas competed amongst 300 high school band students from around the area that included Corpus Christi, Victoria, San Antonio, Brownsville and the Laredo areas. This is Rosas second time qualifying for the TMEA 5A All-State Band.
Eight other Alice High School Band students also competed in the ATSSB Virtual Area Band auditions. All eight of the students had a great showing.
