The Big HOO-HAA! Musical Improvaganza

The Big HOO-HAA! Musical Improvaganza LOCATION DATE This event is part of the 2021 Melbourne International Comedy Festival. What do you get when you mix Melbourne’s longest running, best-loved improvised comedy show with three of the most popular musical genres of all time? A toe-tapping good time at this year’s Comedy Festival, that’s what! After sell-out shows in 2018 and 2019, The Big HOO-HAA! returns to Melbourne Town Hall for 2021– and they’re turning up the volume on their unique brand of rapid-fire comedy competition. This year, each of The Big HOO-HAA!’s three Comedy Festival shows showcases a different popular music genre. Show one sees the HOO-HAA crew head back to the golden years of disco. On night two, the cast travels to the American south for a good old-fashioned country and western hoedown. Then on night three, we’re whipping out our Viking horns for a soaring comedic opera experience to remember.

Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2021

Comedy Although the spectre of Covid-19 hangs over this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival, it demonstrates the resilience of live Australian performance. By Robert Reid. Credit: Jim Lee It would be weird if performers at this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival (MICF) didn’t directly address the pandemic; after all, it was the first major arts event to be cancelled when Covid-19 emerged a year ago. Even in the big rooms, I’m very aware of people’s proximity. One fellow sitting next to me strikes up a conversation about how odd it feels to be back out in the world. I suggest that it’s going to take practice to get used to being around each other again.
