Victoria considers hotel quarantine scale back and overhaul

Victoria could scale back its intake of returning travelers and ditch the use of private facilities in a major shakeup of its quarantine program. The state's new quarantine strategy could revert to a humanitarian-only policy, cutting weekly intake numbers to as low as a few hundred. Dysfunctional centres like the Melbourne Airport Holiday Inn could also be replaced by facilities on federal-owned property outside Melbourne. However, this could fail to address the real problem which caused the latest outbreak, recently traced back to poor infection control by an infectious diseases expert. Dozens of people in Victoria exposed to the coronavirus were allowed out in public after it took authorities one week to confirm a weak positive test result

Covid Australia: Melbourne, Victoria has two new coronavirus cases linked to Holiday Inn

Melbourne fruit market is added to list of growing Covid exposure sites

A Melbourne fruit market has been added to Victoria s growing list of coronavirus exposure sites - as the state recorded two new locally-acquired infections on day four of its snap five-day lockdown. The two local cases reported on Tuesday are close household contacts of a previously confirmed case linked to the Holiday Inn, taking the outbreak to 19 infections.  Victorian health authorities said there were also two additional cases reported in hotel quarantine from 23,950.   The health update comes as a hot hotel in central Melbourne where Covid-19 infected guests are housed is being evacuated as water damage from a sprinkler system is repaired.
