Stearns County Home Significantly Damaged in Saturday Night Fire

Jennifer Lewerenz (KNSI) – The cause of a house fire Saturday night is under investigation. The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office says a passerby noticed a house on fire about two miles west of Spring Hill near Elrosa about 11:15. The person was knocking on the doors of the house and called 911. When help arrived, flames were shooting through the roof of the home. Deputies tried putting out some flames near the roofline but realized they had spread throughout the interior of the home. Members of the Elrosa Fire Department were also on scene. The homeowners say they had just bought the house and were about to do some renovations on it. It was empty when the fire broke out. According to a press release, the damage estimate is unknown, but it’s reportedly “significant.”

Alexandria driver injured in I-94 crash

Written By: Al Edenloff | × An Alexandria man was injured in a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 94 near Melrose Wednesday, Dec. 23 at about 11:45 a.m. Harlan Leroy Walberg, 76, was driving a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis east on the freeway near mile marker 137 in Stearns County when the vehicle spun out and hit the Sauk River bridge barricade, according to the State Patrol. The roads were covered with snow and ice at the time of the crash. Walberg, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to the Melrose hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the State Patrol.
