Amazon will commence its manufacturing efforts with contract manufacturer Cloud Network Technology, a subsidiary of Foxconn in Chennai and start production later this year. Last year, the government had announced a Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme to step up manufacturing capacity. Already Apple and Samsung are producing smartphones in India through their partners.
