641 new cases, 6 new deaths in Oneida County
Oneida County saw an additional 641 coronavirus cases between New Year s Eve and New Year s Day, bringing the total in the county to 12,724 according to officials.
Of these new cases, 27 are among nursing home residents; 5,833 of these cases are active, while 5,159 have recovered, officials said.
The county also reported six new coronavirus-related deaths, bringing the total to 232 in the county after one previous death was determined to be out-of-county and removed, officials said.
Currently 170 people are hospitalized with the virus in Oneida County, including 11 nursing home residents; 155 are at Mohawk Valley Health Systems hospitals and 15 are at Rome Memorial Hospital, officials said. Nine patients are hospitalized outside the county.

The Genesis Center, a way to offer research opportunities for data analytics and quantitative analysis projects, was introduced Thursday morning.
The data and research center is under the umbrella of the Genesis Group and is several years in the making, said Ray Durso, president and CEO of the Genesis Group.
“The Genesis Group of the Mohawk Valley is excited to introduce the Genesis Center,” Durso said. “This adaptive leadership initiative uses collaborative engagement to seek those innovative and creative ideas and initiatives that will move our region forward.”
Durso said the center will develop partnerships between schools and colleges and area businesses and industries to provide training, internships and degree programs that allow the Mohawk Valley region to be a leader in data analytics.
