Commissioners hold weekly meeting POMEROY The Meigs County Commissioners approved numerous items during their regular weekly meeting. A contract was approved with the Monroe County Jail for the housing of prisoners at the jail facility. The cost at the facility is $65 per prisoner, per day. The commissioners approved the purchase/set up of Courtview for the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office. The matter was tabled from the Jan. 7 meeting at which time two options were presented for the implementation of the system. The matter was tabled to consult with the judges and clerk of courts to determine the best option for the sheriff’s office access. Courtview is utilized by the courts and will allow for the deputies to access court documents when needed.

January grand jury returns 18 indictments Staff Report POMEROY Meigs County Prosecuting Attorney James K. Stanley announces that the January 2021 session of the Meigs County Grand Jury returned 18 indictments against 17 individuals. Those indicted include the following: Kyle Akers, 26, of Irondale, Ohio, was indicted for Possession of Drugs (Amphetamine), a felony of the fifth degree. The Ohio State Highway Patrol investigated this matter. Waylon Bing, 36, of Gallipolis, Ohio, was indicted for Failure to Comply with an Order or Signal of a Police Officer, a felony of the third degree, Endangering Children, a misdemeanor of the first degree, and Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence, a misdemeanor of the first degree. The Ohio State Highway Patrol investigated this matter.

Drugs reportedly found in vehicle Staff Report POMEROY Drugs were reportedly found in a vehicle after a call of two men passed out on Saturday. Meigs County Sheriff Keith Wood reported, in a news release, that his office received a call of two men passed out in a white van at the ReUp and Stuff Store located on State Route 681 in Pomeroy. Meigs County EMS also responded to the scene. “Upon deputy’s arrival both men were awake and still sitting in the van. Deputies reported that both men appeared disoriented and declined medical treatment. Both men were found to have active warrants for their arrest. After a probable cause search of the vehicle by deputies they located a tan powder substance that was identified as six grams of heroin along with an unknown white powdery substance. Several paraphernalia items, including uncapped syringes were also located in the vehicle,” stated the news release.

File photo POMEROY The Meigs County Jail will be permanently closed Meigs County Sheriff Keith Wood stated during Thursday’s Meigs County Commissioner meeting. Meigs County Sheriff Keith Wood provided an update on operations at the sheriff’s office, noting the decision had been made to permanently close the jail facility at the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office. Wood read a letter which will be sent to John Adams, administrator for the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction Bureau of Adult Detention. The letter states,
