COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Gilbert Boit advanced to Eugene in the 10,000m with a runner-up finish in the distance race on the first evening of the NCAA West Preliminary round held at E.B. Cushing Stadium. Boit becomes the third Razorback to earn a trip to Oregon for the NCAA Championships.
Boit used a final lap split of 59.76 seconds to move into second place as he posted a time of 29:10.36. Iowa State’s Wesley Kiptoo broke away from the field of 48 runners early and won the race in 28:50.11. BYU’s Conner Mantz finished third in 29:10.91.

It s the largest number of overdose deaths ever recorded in a 12-month period.
While the misuse opioids is often believed to be an urban problem, authorities say its now found its way into smaller communities.
Police say in many cases, people are purchasing the drugs illegally right off the streets.
Earlier this year, officers responded to a Texarkana, Texas neighborhood where three people overdosed after ingesting counterfeit pills laced with fentanyl, an extremely powerful opioid.
Texarkana, Texas Officer Shawn Vaughn says a 25-year old woman died and two others were hospitalized. We think they were talking about opioids, oxycontin, something like that. That s what they thought they were buying, but they wound up with something that may look just like it, but it s laced with something else that s quite dangerous and could kill you, Vaughn said.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – No. 8 Arkansas makes a return visit to Texas A&M for the NCAA West Preliminary rounds this week as the first two rounds of the NCAA Championships is held at E.B. Cushing Stadium on Wednesday and Friday with the top 12 finishers in each event advancing to Eugene.
“We have 27 entries this weekend along with two in the decathlon in Eugene, so we have 29 scoring opportunities while competing in 15 of the 21 events,” said Arkansas men’s head coach Chris Bucknam.
“We also have both of our relays in. So, it feels good to go down as a team. It feels like the conference meet to us. That’s an advantage and a good situation for us to have a team atmosphere.”
