The Bulletin – December 26

The Bulletin – December 26 Grocery shoppers can support food pantry at checkout CUMBERLAND Community Outreach Ministry Eastside (COME) hopes grocery shoppers will donate at the store to help the food pantry the ministry operates out of Cumberland First Baptist Church. Through Meijer’s holiday Simply Give campaign, shoppers can pick up a gift card near the checkout, give it to the cashier, and indicate how much they wish to donate. Donations at the Cumberland Meijer (11315 East Washington St.) will support the COME pantry. The program runs through Saturday, Jan. 2. Eight member churches in Hancock and Marion counties form COME and also support the pantry.

Food pantries in Spartanburg continue to meet high demand during pandemic

Food pantries in Spartanburg continue to meet high demand during pandemic Without help from local food pantries, Courtney McAtee of Spartanburg doesn t know how she would feed her family. McAtee never needed help from food pantries prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, but she lost her job in August. It has been a struggle trying to pay her bills, buy groceries and keep a roof over her family s head without a job.  Basically, it s the difference between eating and not eating and feeding your kids or not sometimes, McAtee said. During COVID, we lost all of our jobs and are barely hanging onto our place through Christmas. It s been devastating.

Hometown Heroes: Church donates hundreds of teddy bears for Christmas

By Reservation, Online or In Person, Christmas Eve Services Will Go On | News, Sports, Jobs

Life Editor WHEELING It has been a trying Advent season for the faithful in the local community as churches figure out the best and safest way to hold services. Christmas Eve tends to see church pews filled with regular attendees and out-of-town visitors as the focus of the holiday is on family gatherings. However in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, congregations are being asked to do things differently this year. As directed by various denominations and church leaders, many churches have opted to hold in-person Christmas Eve services on Thursday, but with a twist. Masks and enforced social distancing, stepped up-disinfecting between services and the need to make reservations prior to Thursday seem to be the norm for many congregations.
