Data provided by the WRHA shows only two nursing homes were fitted with the new N95s on Sept. 29 a point when COVID-19 case counts had been steadily rising across the province and outbreaks had been declared at four personal care homes in Winnipeg.
By October, the fit-testing devices had been loaned to another 16 of Winnipeg s 38 nursing homes for testing staff.
A spokesperson for the WRHA said the authority originally created a schedule for the devices for September to December, but had to change it to prioritize homes as more outbreaks were declared.

Some personal care homes have their own fit-testing resources, including homes owned by Revera one of Canada s largest care home operators, and the company that manages Parkview Place and Maples Long Term Care Home, the sites of the worst COVID-19 outbreaks in Manitoba to date.

The province says 15,681 individuals are now listed as recovered from COVID-19.

The death toll is now at 537. Winnipeg once again had 10 of the new deaths including, a man in his 40s, a woman in her 50s, a man in his 70s, and a man in his 80s. Three of the deaths are linked to the outbreak at the Charleswood Care Centre, a woman in her 80s and a man and woman both in their 90s. The Maples Long Term Care Home had two more deaths, a woman in her 90s and a woman in her 100s. The other death was from the outbreak at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg and was a woman in her 90s.

The current five-day COVID-19 test positivity rate is 13 per cent provincially and 13.2 per cent in Winnipeg. As of 9:30am on December 17, 2020, 221 new cases of the virus have been identified and brings the total number of lab-confirmed cases in Manitoba to 22,047.
