According to the National Weather Service report, a supercell thunderstorm formed in northwest Beltrami County around 4:30 p.m. July 26 and intensified as it tracked southeastward across Lower Red Lake and Red Lake Nation. National Weather Service confirms tornadoes touched down in Metro Detroit

The National Weather Service confirmed that two tornadoes touched down Saturday (July 24) night in Metro Detroit.
Both tornadoes were labeled “EF-1″ by the NWS, meaning the winds reached an estimated peak of between 86 and 110 mph. One tornado touched down in White Lake and another touched down in Armada. An EF-1 tornado also touched down in Genesee County.

Township of Armada activiates state of emergency following EF-1 tornado
“It happened so fast and it was over and all the damage happened in 10 minutes. The pictures were one thing, but actually being here and seeing the street littered with debris and everything that happened and came along with that. The downed trees, it was awful,” Armada resident Justin Sebra said.
The tornadoes toppled trees onto homes, ripped roofs off some buildings. A clear path of widespread destruction was visible. The Armada community has experienced residents coming together to support each other. Some people have cooked food for the volunteers helping clean up the damage.
