LONDON: UK prime minister Boris Johnson told MPs in the House of Commons on Tuesday that the UK going forward will “engage more deeply in the Indo-Pacific”. He also confirmed that he will visit India in April.
Launching the UK’s Integrated Review of Security, Defence, Development and Foreign Policy, which sets out the UK’s vision of its role in the world over the next decade, Johnson singled out India for a mention, describing India as “the world’s biggest democracy”. He said the purpose of his trip was to “strengthen friendship with India”.

India is categorised as an international actor of growing importance in the review, which commits to achieving an Enhanced Trade Partnership this year.

LONDON: The UK must do more to adapt to major changes in the world and therefore shift its foreign policy focus to the Indo-Pacific region, with countries such as India, Japan and Australia, a year-long of the country s post-Brexit Global Britain vision concluded on Tuesday.

Mr Johnson is expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whom he also invited to the G7 Summit in Cornwall as a guest in June.
A spokesman said Boris Johnson’s Government would also tilt its focus towards the Indo-Pacific region as part of its Integrated Review of government policy, set to be announced today.
They said the area increasingly represented the geopolitical centre of the world, which includes India.
Mr Johnson will say in a statement to Parliament today: “I am profoundly optimistic about the UK s place in the world and our ability to seize the opportunities ahead.”
