In the East County congressional district that former Rep. Duncan Hunter once represented, community leaders and elected officials had mixed reactions Wednesday to the news that President Donald Trump planned to award the disgraced lawmaker a full pardon for his years of misusing campaign donations.
Some were grateful; others were livid.
“Was there wrong done? Based on the laws that have been passed that’s 100 percent correct,” said Floyd Jones, an El Cajon businessman who has been close to the Hunter family for decades.
“However, was there any justice done?” Jones asked. “He gave up his congressional seat. The price and penalty he has paid have been great. How would you like to lose your family and your home?”
