A Mangawhai residents group is looking to appeal Kaipara District Council s green light towards intensifying a $750 million urban development in the middle of their coastal hamlet. We will be seriously considering appealing the decision, Doug Lloyd, chair of community group Mangawhai Matters said.

Kaipara Mayor Dr Jason Smith earlier said the Kaipara district, which is part of Northland, had not been given clear guidelines by the Government, and it was causing confusion over whether the community was part of the Auckland lockdown or not.

Road blocks have been set up north of Auckland as the region goes into alert level 3. Smith said he was informed by local police about 8pm Sunday of roadblocks north of Mangawhai, Kaiwaka and Oneriri, which meant the areas should be under alert level 3. However, Kaipara Civil Defence had posted in a Mangawhai community group on social media that the whole of the Kaipara district is in alert level 2.

Last year s maintenance programme was the largest ever, with 10 per cent of the roading network renewed or repaired.
This year it is 8.5 per cent - that is nearly 2000km of refreshed roads - the equivalent of repaving a two-lane road from Picton to Bluff.
