“It’s working for us (General Community Quarantine with heightened restrictions). We’re now down to 170 cases coming from 1,296 last april 12, so that’s a very huge drop in the number of active cases, and for me, I am seeing now that the economy has restarted.” Zamora said in an interview with ANC.
“I usually go around the different commercial areas on a daily basis and I’m observing that people are now starting to come out again. Like I mentioned here in San Juan, 30 percent of our target vaccinees have been vaccinated and this is a major factor in keeping the numbers low. So as long as the cases do not rise, we are now stabilized at around the 160 level only. So if ever the status will change, it should be very gradual, it should be just within the allowable businesses and industries, and possibly just increasing the capacity. “We attribute this enormous decrease to the strict implementation of ECQ (Enhanced Community Quarantine), MECQ (Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine), and now GCQ (General Community Quarantine) alongside our local government’s relentless efforts to do continuous contact tracing, RT-PCR swab testing, isolation, and treatment,” Zamora said.
Metro Manila and the nearby provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, and Bulacan were placed under a bubble called the NCR Plus to mitigate the surge of COVID-19 cases.
Zamora said the city now has 19,004 of its residents already vaccinated against COVID-19.
“Our ongoing vaccination drive is a prime mover in our fight against COVID-19 and in protecting our people,” Zamora said.

“Here in San Juan, from 1,296 on April 12, it’s now down to 280 and this is really the effect of the ECQ (Enhanced Community Quarantine) and MECQ (Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine).” Zamora said in an interview with CNN Philippines.
The mayor said the Metro Manila Council (MMC) held a meeting yesterday to come up with a recommendation for the National Captial Region’s (NCR) next quarantine classification starting May 15. He personally voted to ease the quarantine classification to General Community Quarantine (GCQ) but stressed that it should be a stricter kind of GCQ to prevent the surge in COVID-19 cases.

Zamora said that his decision was made after the Metro Manila Council (MMC) had a meeting yesterday to discuss the Metro Manila mayors’ recommendation for the next quarantine classification of the National Capital Region (NCR).
“I personally voted for a GCQ because the discussions last night were really to have a GCQ that is strict in nature because there were GCQs before that had additional allowances, meaning in terms of allowable businesses and industries which made it a not so strict GCQ.” Zamora said during an interview with CNN Philippines.
