BATON ROUGE - An employee at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center completed her mission to run 50 miles across Baton Rouge to raise $50,000 in honor of the center s 50th anniversary.
The fundraiser closes at the end of March, but the fundraising goal has already been reached.

BATON ROUGE - A staff member at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center pledged to run 50 miles across Baton Rouge to raise $50,000 in honor of the center s 50th anniversary.
The fundraiser closes at the end of March, but the goal has already been reached.
Corrie Mackey says she is honored to celebrate the Cancer Center with Mackey s Miles for Mary Bird Perkins after being on their team for over a decade.
“You have to have that incentive. It’s gotta mean something to you to run that long, and the only organization that means that much to me, is the cancer center, Mackey said.
Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, in partnership with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation and Louisiana Cancer Foundation, is providing free, convenient access to breast and colorectal cancer screenings during the month of February. Discovering cancers in their earliest stage through screenings can help lead to better outcomes, making it extremely important for the community to get screened for appropriate cancers.
Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center’s Prevention on the Go program will be providing breast cancer screenings on February 18 and 19 at the Northeast LA Cancer Institute at 411 Calypso St., Monroe, LA 71201. Screenings will be held Thursday, Feb. 18, 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. and from 1-4 p.m. and on Friday, Feb. 19 from 7-11:30 a.m. Colorectal cancer testing kits will also be distributed to anyone 45-years-old or older.

Organizations such as Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center are determined to ensure these patients don t fight the illness alone.
This year, one Mary Bird Perkins employee is making a special effort to make a difference in the lives of cancer patients.
